Before we go home
we lie on our backs
in the long grass beside
dented buckets of berries
smooth and tiny and round
hard-won from low bushes
a long day of slow-picking
smooth blue berries
and tiny green worms
into dented silver pails
hooked on our belts
we lie purple-handed
in the long grass
